Audrey Appleby is best remembered as an international umpire. She umpired the first women's international match at Wembley Stadium and went to become a successful umpire coach and assessor. Over the course of her hockey career Appleby witnessed a variety of rules changes and the introduction of artificial turf which altered the game dramatically from that which she had first known as a player.
