Our Partnerships
We are grateful for the support of our key stakeholders who continue to support The Hockey Museum’s evolution and growth.
England Hockey
England Hockey (EH), the national governing body for hockey in England, supports The Hockey Museum (THM) through the provision of a trustee to THM Board, the payment of an annual grant to assist with the running of the Museum and also gives support for the staging of Museum displays and exhibitions at major EH/Great Britain Hockey tournaments and events.
THM supports EH with history and heritage stories and project work in support of EH’s national strategy.
FIH Foundation
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is world hockey’s governing body. Its charitable arm, the FIH Foundation (FIHF), works to support the development and spread of hockey worldwide.
Key aims for the THM’s partnership with FIHF are:
1. To provide opportunities to increase the visibility of hockey and to effectively celebrate the achievements and progress of the sport.
2. To preserve an accurate story of hockey and provide access to authoritative historical archives and statistical data.
3. To preserve and make available historical information and materials for use in a wide variety of ways, e.g. for educational purposes and enquiries from hockey fans.
4. To work towards creating an international museum and archives.
Woking Borough Council
Woking has been the home of The Hockey Museum (THM) since 2011 and the lead up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. From the Museum’s first permanent home in Butts Road to our current location on Woking’s High Street, THM has received unwavering support from Woking Borough Council. Our presence in Woking affords Woking the status of having an international sports museum in the town and firmly puts Woking on the map of world hockey.
University of Bath Library
The University of Bath and England Hockey have collaborated since 2005, housing and cataloguing the All England Women’s Hockey Association (AEWHA) collection of archives and assorted hockey records. This partnership was expanded to include The Hockey Museum after it was established in 2011.
The AEWHA Archive is preserved and made available as a record of the beginnings and early development of organised hockey played by women in England from 1895 to 1996.
Arts Council England
Arts Council England (ACE) is the national development agency for creativity and culture. ACE invest public money to support the arts sector and to deliver their vision of a country in which creativity is valued and given the chance to flourish and where everyone has access to a remarkable range of high-quality cultural experiences.
ACE operates the UK Museum Accreditation Scheme, the nationally agreed standards ensuring all museums are sustainable, focused and trusted, inspiring the confidence of the public and funding bodies. The Hockey Museum (THM) was awarded Museum Accreditation by ACE in May 2018.
THM has been financially supported by ACE with funding for a project to assess the feasibility of a mobile exhibition experience.
National Lottery Heritage Fund
The National Lottery invests money through the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) to help people across the UK explore, enjoy and protect the heritage they care about: from the archaeology under our feet to the historic parks and buildings we love; from precious memories and collections to rare wildlife.
The Hockey Museum has been financially supported by NLHF grants towards oral histories and cine film digitisation projects, as well as a Resilient Heritage project to review the Museum’s progress and strategise for a sustainable future.
Sporting Heritage
Sporting Heritage is a subject specialist network which exists to support and advocate for the collection, preservation, access and research of sporting heritage in the UK and wider.
The Hockey Museum (THM) contributes to its resources and activities, including Sporting Heritage’s annual conference and National Sporting Heritage Day on 30 September each year.
Through Sporting Heritage, THM has been a recipient of an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Collaborative Doctoral Partnership PhD placement.
Mercian Hockey
Mercian is a global name in hockey, shaping and innovating in the game since 1974. The Hockey Museum (THM) shares a strong link with Mercian through Mike Smith, the Museum’s Honorary Curator and President, who was the founder and Managing Director of Mercian Hockey for many years.
The support of Mercian was central to the foundation of the Museum in 2011, and THM remains grateful for their ongoing support and the advocacy of its current Managing Director, triple hockey Olympian, Simon Mason.
