Important information to help plan your visit
Accessibility and Facilities
Wide, flat pavements ensure comfortable pedestrian access to The Hockey Museum. There is currently two-step access to the front door of the museum and we have a wheelchair ramp funded by the Woking Lions Club. Doorbells are positioned at an accessible height before the steps.
Inside, our exhibition space and principal office is located on the ground floor. Visitor routes within the exhibition space are wide enough for wheelchairs. Museum exhibits and signage are located at accessible heights.
We provide large format text for visually impaired visitors, however, there are no audio guides available at present. Transcriptions are not currently available for audio interpretation.
Our library is on the first floor which, regrettably, is only accessible by stairs.
There is no public toilet at the museum, but excellent wheelchair accessible toilets are located just around the corner in Wolsey Place shopping centre. Maps and directions are available in the Museum.
If you have any specific requirements related to access, please contact us prior to arriving. We will do all we can to accommodate your needs.
Driving and Parking
There is no parking at or vehicle access directly to The Hockey Museum along High Street, however Woking town centre has several local pay-and-display car parks. Woking Council offers a ‘shop mobility’ service from its car parks with advance booking – you do not need to be a blue badge holder.
If you are visiting to deposit substantial collection material, please contact us in advance. We may be able to co-ordinate with the Council for direct access along High Street to the loading bays.
Public Transport
The Hockey Museum enjoys excellent access by public transport. We are located just minutes from Woking’s bus and train stations. Woking is also serviced by bus and coach direct from Heathrow Airport.
A young visitor explores the Discovery Chest, part of our children’s trail.
Adults and Community
An attraction for adults, whether you’re a hockey enthusiast, a history buff or just looking for shelter from the rain. Come and discover The Hockey Museum.
We are a fascinating venue for local community group, hockey club or society visits. Hockey engages with interesting and perhaps unexpected areas of 20th- and 21st-century social history, e.g. women’s suffrage, the World Wars, Olympism, British imperialism, that you need not be a hockey nut to find something that interests you.
Short tours can be arranged including behind the scenes access to our collection stores as well as visits tailored to your specific interest or personal hockey past. Donations to our charity museum in recognition of customised visits and guided tours are not compulsory but most definitely welcome.
Children and Families
Discover the story of hockey with your family.
Families are encouraged to explore THM’s exhibition hall through an interpretative trail that poses questions, envisions scenarios and encourages discussion with your young family members. The exhibition itself contains a variety of interactive and audio-visual elements to facilitate learning such as a discovery chest, handling objects, screens and listening posts.
