The Hockey Museum (THM) has been supporting the International Hockey Federation (FIH) to create a coffee table book and film celebrating 100 years of hockey’s world governing body.
Their centennial book chronicles some of the most significant and interesting developments in our sport. We coordinated the authoring of several chapters, researching and drawing on expertise within THM and through our hockey network. We identified, scanned and photographed a great variety of items from our collection – including prints, archival documents and books, photographic prints and slides, clothing, protective kit and assorted memorabilia – to illustrate the book’s chapters.
The printed centennial book is a limited edition that was gifted to delegates at the FIH Congress in Oman in early November. A copy will soon take pride of place in THM’s extensive library and can be viewed by appointment. A virtual version of the book will also be made available on the FIH website in due course.
It has been a mammoth undertaking within a very tight timescale, but THM is very proud to have supported the FIH with this important project. We have seized an opportunity to demonstrate the professionalism of our operation to a key partner, as well as demonstrate the importance of our history and heritage work to a global audience.
FIH President Tayyab Ikram said:
“As we celebrate the FIH Centennial, we’re contemplating a 100-year rich history marked by dedication, passion, and growth in the world of hockey. This is not just a celebration; it is a commemoration of a century of resilience, progress, and the unyielding spirit of the hockey community.
“The FIH Centennial book tells this fascinating story, since the creation of hockey’s world governing body on 7 January 1924 by visionary leaders from seven member associations to a sport played in 146 countries today.
On behalf of FIH, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to The Hockey Museum, and in particular its Chairman David Knapp, for their tremendous support in making this book a reality. Their knowledge of and passion for hockey, as well as their commitment throughout this project, has been nothing short of remarkable. All hockey lovers will read this unique book with great enthusiasm.”
