Let Us Explain About Our Shane
July 31, 2016
Shane

ShaneThe Hockey Museum is delighted to announce its second professional appointment. Shane Smith has been appointed as Curatorial Assistant on a one-year contract and begins today.

He joined the Museum in October 2013 as Volunteer Curator of Art and later as Digital Content Editor of the website. His wide ranging skills make him an ideal candidate for the new appointment.

His qualifications include a Master of Arts degree in Art Gallery and Museum Studies from Manchester University and a first class Batchelor of Arts degree in Art History from Plymouth University.

Shane currently runs our website and will continue to do this on a voluntary basis. In the last three years he has contributed significantly in a number of areas, including the art collection, conservation, the website and publicity, exhibitions and displays, IT and much more.

His job description covers five key areas of our operation on a roughly equal basis and is a full-time appointment. That means one day per week on each activity.

One of the five areas is to offer help and support to Mike Smith, the Curator, whose role has expanded beyond belief in the nearly five years of The Hockey Museum’s existence.

Shane’s other specific areas of activity will be to get our Art Collection in total order and fully catalogued, to assist with the Oral History project, specifically to get our oral histories onto our website, to create a Supporter Friends scheme as part of our financial resilience project and to assist the Collections Manager with our drive to catalogue and record our ever growing collection.

If anyone would like more information on Shane’s role or feel you could help or support in any way, please contact the Curator, Mike Smith, by way of our contact form.
