Hockey in Morocco
January 22, 2014

The Museum has started researching the origins and development of hockey in North Africa as we already know that ‘hockey-like’ games have been played in many countries in this region for generations.

We have images of a game called ‘Genna’ being played in Ethiopia (see item in December’s newsletter), ‘oggaf’ or sand hockey in Tunisia and ‘nomad hockey’ in Morocco.

We have now found a fascinating clip from YouTube of a game being played in M’hamid El Ghizlane, Morocco, last year.

Mike Haymonds is trying to contact the photographer who took this video to get the story behind this game and some of the origins.  If you can add to this discussion, please contact the Museum as we would love to find out more.
