Great Britain honours cap for 1948 Olympian Neil White

The Great Britain (GB) honours cap of Scottish Olympic silver medallist William Neil White (player no. 49) was presented to his niece Mairi Pollock at Gullane Golf Club last month. Known as Neil, White was one of five Scotsmen in the GB hockey team that competed in the London Olympic Games of 1948.

Neil excelled in sport at boarding school captaining The Leys School hockey, rugby and cricket teams. He would go on to Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge, where he gained Blues for rugby (1939 & 1947) and hockey (1948). His university experience was split either side of the Second World War where Neil served with distinction, rising to the rank of Major and earning the Military Cross.
