Former England women’s hockey captain and 1975 World Tournament winner Dr Anita White was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the King’s New Year’s Honours List. Her recognition is for services to women and to sport.
Anita has been a long-time supporter of The Hockey Museum (THM) and everyone involved in our organisation sends her our enthusiastic congratulations on her recognition.
Anita enjoyed a long and successful hockey career during which she played for Buckinghamshire, the South and gained 42 caps for England. Thereafter, she turned to academia and was a co-founder of the Women’s Sport Foundation, which sought to address issues of gender inequality in British sport. She also set up the Anita White Foundation, which championed leadership and opportunities for women around the world. Anita discusses this pioneering work and reflects on her hockey career in her oral history interview, conducted with THM in August 2015. Listen on our website (link below).
