The board of The Hockey Museum are delighted to announce the appointment of David Knapp as Chair, with effect from 7 December 2023. David has succeeded John Willmott, who served for four years and who has agreed to continue as a trustee.
David has had a long career in hockey having played the bulk of his 49-year club hockey with Guildford and the Old Cranleighan Hockey Club. He is a retired solicitor having been born, schooled and worked in Woking, the location of The Hockey Museum. David was appointed to the board of trustees in autumn 2022 to head up our fund-raising committee and has welcomed the opportunity to become involved with protecting hockey’s history.
Under John’s term, The Hockey Museum has seen some major changes as well as the Covid-19 pandemic! He has overseen the appointment of a new curator and the refreshing of the board which now includes more museum professionals.
The dedication of our staff, 70 or so volunteers and trustees is remarkable with The Hockey Museum being the only museum in the world devoted solely to hockey.
Financially, the museum is stronger today than in the past, however in order to survive and progress we must increase our annual income. We are grateful to England Hockey and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) who continue to support us, but donations from the hockey playing public would be hugely welcome and vital to our future.
