Financing the setting up and the running of our museum has been a very interesting exercise over the past five years. The money came initially and mainly from our Volunteers and Friends, without whom there would never have been The Hockey Museum.
More latterly our endeavours have been rewarded by grants and awards taking our great project onwards and upwards. However, volunteer effort and funding remain a key element of our endeavour and one of our number, Jon Rye, is combining both effort and fundraising by running the London Marathon 2016 in aid of the Museum.
Every penny that Jon raises will go to our Museum Charity. I am therefore inviting all our supporters to be a part of Jon’s Marathon effort. Please click here to find out more about Jon’s extreme exercise.
I do hope that you are able to support him. With many thanks and kind regards.
Mike Smith, Curator.
“The Virgin Money London Marathon 2016 will be my fifth marathon, having completed the London Marathon every Olympic year since 2000. I have always run for charity, raising thousands through my efforts, and despite it being such a long way, the overall experience is phenomenal.
This year’s attempt is the first time that I have followed a structured training plan and it is my aim to beat my personal best of 4hrs 37mins. London Marathon training always gets in the way of the hockey season, however I have managed to continue playing hockey for the second half of the season – not sure how my legs have coped! I would love to achieve a sub-4hr time but you never know exactly how it will go on the day. Thank you for any additional funds you can add to the pot!” Jon Rye
